Ookla research finds MegaFon best operator by data speed, coverage

MOSCOW, Jul 10 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator MegaFon’s mobile connection has been acknowledged as the best in the country by coverage and mobile Internet speed in 2023, the company said on Monday quoting an independent research by international firm Ookla.

“Over the previous year traffic consumption continued to rise, and we were actively working on the connectivity quality, now our subscribers enjoy download speed by 20% higher on average than of the closest competitor. We do not only expand coverage, including in the regions, in towns, but also improve effectiveness of the existing infrastructure,” MegaFon Technical Director Alexei Titov said.

MegaFon has been maintaining the leadership by mobile Internet speed for seven years already. Median download speed on the network amounted to 29.34 Mbit/s and data download speed reached 9.71 Mbit/s, which are currently the best results in the country for mobile connection users.

The research results are based on mobile Internet speed measurement taken by subscribers of all the operators on their devices via application Speedtest during January–June. Ookla analyzed 5 million measurements from 1 million various devices.
